Why women's health media?

Maternie is a media company focused solely on covering women’s health and wellness.

In an era that has been defined by media struggles, why start an outlet focused on women’s health?

Because for decades, women were viewed as miniature versions of men, our unique pain and struggles dismissed as just part of being female. Thankfully, that approach is changing in scientific research and medicine. But the media lags behind. Information is not reaching the people who need it.

Outside the politics of abortion, women’s health doesn’t get front-page coverage, often relegated to specialty sections. Even today when you look at the newsrooms that make up our nation’s largest media organizations, you will find no more than a handful of reporters covering health for a consumer audience—if you’re lucky. While those reporters are doing excellent work, they often cover many disease areas and conditions. They aren’t necessarily focused on one area, one condition, day in and day out.

The good news is that digital media makes it possible—and profitable—to do what was too difficult in the days of print media. We believe there is a large enough audience of valuable readers and subscribers who want to know the latest in women’s health.

Our business model is not built on affiliate links or writing content to sell products. We are an independent organization and make money from reader subscriptions and advertisements that are clearly labeled.

We have started with a daily newsletter, synthesizing the best coverage on all topics women’s health, regardless of where it is produced. That gives our subscribers one place to see the stories they need to know—and pass along to their friends and family.

In the coming months, we will expand our feature reporting to beats like endometriosis, perinatal depression, cancer screenings, and more. There are thousands of untold stories of vital importance to anyone who cares about women’s health. Got one you’d like to share? Pitch us or send tips to [email protected].
